Calendar feeds: MusicXen shows in your own calendar

Every band, venue, city and genre on MusicXen has a calendar

feed — a link your own calendar app can subscribe to. Once

it's added, the shows show up in your calendar next to

everything else, and they keep themselves up to date: new

shows appear, changed shows move, cancelled shows go away.

Shows that aren't confirmed yet are marked (Pending).

  • A band's calendar — the Subscribe link at the top of

the band's Calendar tab.

  • A venue's calendar — the Subscribe link under the

venue's Availability calendar.

  • Your own "My follows" feed — Settings → Calendar

feeds. This one carries every band and venue you follow,

plus the shows you marked Going or Interested. It's a

private link: anyone who has it can see the feed, so

don't share it. If it ever leaks, use the Reset button

on that same Settings card — the old link stops working

right away and you get a new one.

  • City and genre feeds — your Settings → Calendar feeds

card lists the feeds for the pages you run, and any

band or venue page gives you its own. City feeds follow

the pattern /feeds/city/UT/Salt Lake City.ics and genre

feeds /feeds/genre/<genre number>.ics.

Adding a feed, app by app

Apple Calendar (Mac): File → New Calendar Subscription,

paste the link, click Subscribe.

iPhone / iPad: Settings → Calendar → Accounts → Add

Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar, paste the link.

Google Calendar (on a computer): in the left column,

next to "Other calendars", click the + → From URL, paste

the link, click Add calendar. (Google's phone app can't

add a feed directly — add it on a computer and it syncs to

the app.)

Outlook: Add calendar → Subscribe from web, paste the

link, give it a name, Import.

Most apps check a subscribed feed every few hours, so a

brand-new show might take a little while to appear. That's

the app's schedule, not the feed's.

One show at a time

Every show page, and every show in a band's Upcoming list,

has Add to calendar — a Download (.ics) for Apple and

Outlook, and a Google Calendar button that opens Google

with the show already filled in.

Put your calendar on your own website

Bands and venues can also embed a live mini calendar or an

upcoming-shows list on their own website. It updates

itself — post a show on MusicXen and it appears there too.

  • Bands: the copy-paste snippets are in the band's

Admin tab under "On your own website", and the calendar

snippet is also at the bottom of the EPK.

  • Venues: the snippets are in the manager tools at the

top of the venue page.

There are two widgets: a month calendar (bands can flip

through months right in the widget) and a list of the next

shows. Clicking anything in a widget opens the full

MusicXen page in a new tab. The width and height in the

snippet are suggestions — adjust them to fit your page.

The next-show strip on band pages

A band page shows a one-line strip right under its

header with the band's next confirmed show — the

date, the venue and city, and an Add to calendar

link for that show. "Confirmed" means both the band

and the venue have approved the booking and it hasn't

been cancelled; a booking that's still pending doesn't

appear. When the band has no confirmed show coming up,

there's no strip.
