Acting as your page
If you run a band or venue page, you can speak as the page
instead of as yourself — the post, comment or reaction goes out
under the page's name, the way it would from the band itself.
The switch
On your band or venue page, near the top, there's an
Act as … button (only the people who run the page see it).
Tap it and the switch is on: until you switch back,
- wall posts on that page go out as the page,
- comments and replies on that page go out as the page,
- reactions on that page's posts and comments are the page's.
A notice at the top of every page reminds you while the switch
is on, with a Switch back to yourself button right there.
One post at a time
The switch is only a default. The As … pull-down next to any
post or comment box still lets you answer a single post as
yourself while the switch is on — or answer one post as the page
without touching the switch at all.
Who can use it
Only the people who actually run the page: the band's creator
and its admin members, or the venue's managers. Running the
site itself doesn't count — a MusicXen admin who doesn't run
your band can't speak as your band.
Reactions are separate
Your own reaction and your page's reaction are counted
separately. You can 👍 a post as yourself and ❤️ it as your
band, and both show — in the "who reacted" list, the page's
reaction appears under the page's name.
Messages
The switch covers messages too. A page has its own
inbox: while you're acting as the page, conversations
people started with the page appear in your Messages
list, badged with the page's name. Open one and your
replies go out as the page — the other person is
talking to the band or venue, not to you personally.
Anyone can start one from the page's Send Message
button. When new page mail arrives, the people who run
the page get a notification — page mail has no unread
badge until someone is acting as the page, so the bell
is how the team hears about it.
A conversation with a page is one-to-one with the page:
nobody can be added to it, and everyone who runs the
page shares the same inbox and the same read state —
if one of you reads it, it's read for the page.
In the app
Page messages work in the MusicXen app too: fans can write to your page
from the app, and if you run the page, its inbox shows up in your app
messages — reply there and the answer goes out as the page, exactly
like on the website.
