Venue Genre Controls, Backup Bands & Industry Tools

Venue genre controls

Venues decide what music gets booked. From your venue page, open

Genre Policy to:

  • Allowed genres — only bands with these genres can book. Leave

empty to welcome everyone.

  • Related genres — turn this on and bands in the same style family

count too (thrash metal counts as metal, hardcore counts as punk).

  • Blocked genres — never bookable here, no exceptions.
  • Blocked bands — specific bands that can't book, venue-wide.

You can also lock individual time slots to genres ("Friday night is

metal only") from the venue calendar, and block bands from specific

slots.

When a band tries to book and doesn't fit, they see a clear message

explaining why — e.g. "Liquid Joe's only books metal and related

genres." As a venue manager you can override the policy with the

"manager override" checkbox on the booking form.

Backup bands

Bands: from your band page, Sign up as backup — join a venue's

standby pool, volunteer for a specific show, or join the general pool.

Set the dates you're available.

Venues: when a band drops out, open the show and click **Find backup

band**. You'll see standby bands filtered by your genre policy — and

anyone whose calendar shows they're busy that night (already booked,

on tour, or holding the date) is automatically skipped, with the

reason shown.

Pick one → they get a notification → they accept or decline. Accepted

bands join the lineup in the dropped band's slot.

Private notes (industry CRM)

Venues, booking agents, promoters, and bands can keep private notes

on bands, venues, and individual members — "great draw, pays on time",

"needs a big stage", whatever helps you book smarter. Notes live under

My Notes and are private to you: the subject never sees them.

Band blocks

From your band's settings, Blocked bands lists bands you won't

share a bill with. If anyone tries to add a blocked band to a show

you're on (either direction), the site refuses with a clear message.

Invitations

Under Invite friends (in your settings):

  • Email invitations — send a welcome-kit email with your personal

message. Role-specific: bands hear about EPKs and ticketing, venues

hear about genre policies and booking.

  • Personal invite link — share `musicxen.com/invite/YOURCODE`

anywhere. Signups through it are tracked back to you for future

referral rewards.

  • Reminders — if someone doesn't join within 3 days, they get one

nudge (and you get a heads-up).

New members who join through your link see a **role-tailored getting

started checklist** — bands get "create profile → add genres → upload

EPK", venues get "add venue → set genre policy → create show", and so on.
