Genre Explorer

/genres — pick a genre, see the bands playing it, the rooms booking it, and upcoming shows.

How to use it

  1. Open Genres in the nav bar.
  2. Genres are listed with how many bands claim each one. Pick one.
  3. The genre page shows:
  • Bands under that genre,
  • Upcoming shows those bands are playing,
  • Venues that book the genre (or are hosting one of those shows),
  • Instructors who teach instruments matching the genre name, when any exist.

Where the list comes from

Only genres that at least one band has actually put on its profile are listed — the explorer reflects what's on the site, not the full genre taxonomy. Bands: set your genres on your band profile to show up here. Venues: the free-text "genres booked" field on your venue profile feeds this page too.

Tips

  • Genre pages are a great way to find your band's local competition — or your next favorite band.
  • Sub-genres (e.g. "Grunge" under "Rock → Alternative") nest under their parents; the breadcrumb on the page shows the path.

FAQ

My genre isn't listed. No band has claimed it yet. Edit your band profile and add it.

A venue I know books this genre is missing. The venue's "genres booked" field probably doesn't mention it — ask the venue manager to update their profile.
