Global Search

One search box that searches everything on MusicXen: people, bands, venues, shows, classified ads, lesson instructors, studios, and graphic artists.

How to use it

  1. Use the search box in the top navigation bar (or go to /search).
  2. Type at least 2 characters and press Enter (or the 🔍 button).
  3. Results appear grouped by type — People, Bands, Venues, Shows, Classifieds, Lesson instructors, Studios, Graphic artists — so you can scan each category.

What gets searched

  • People: username, display name, real name, and band name on their profile.
  • Bands: name, bio, hometown city, and tribute artist.
  • Venues: name, city, address, and the genres they book.
  • Shows: venue name, show notes, and city (upcoming/confirmed shows only).
  • Classifieds: ad title and description (active ads only).
  • Lesson instructors: name, bio, instruments taught, and location note.
  • Studios / Graphic artists: name and gear/bio.

Matching is substring-based and case-insensitive — "salt" finds "Salt Lake City", "Metallica" finds the tribute band page.

Tips

  • Search a city to find its bands, venues, and shows in one shot.
  • Search an instrument (e.g. "drums") to find instructors, wanted ads don't appear here — those live on the wanted board.
  • Each group shows at most 8 hits so the page stays readable; if your term is too broad, add another word.

FAQ

Why doesn't my band show up? Only active, non-archived bands are indexed. If your band is archived, it won't appear.

Why no results for a show I posted? Cancelled, declined, or past shows are excluded. Check the show's status on its page.

Does search find wall posts or messages? No — search covers profiles and listings, not posts or private messages.
