Match scores

Every musician and band search result carries a ★ match score (0–100).

Hover (or long-press) the badge for the full breakdown — each of the four

parts shows its points and why.

How it's calculated

On musician results (for example the Musicians directory):

  • Genre overlap — 40 pts. How many genres you and the other musician

share, as a fraction of all genres between you. No genre info on one

side scores half.

  • Distance — 25 pts. Full points for same-town, fading to zero at

200 miles. Missing locations score half, never zero.

  • Availability — 20 pts. Free days marked on the availability calendar

over the next two weeks. No marks at all scores half.

  • Skill level — 15 pts. Your self-rated skill level if set, otherwise

a tier from years playing.

On band results (the Bands directory):

  • Genre overlap — 40 pts, same as above, against the band's genres.
  • Distance — 25 pts, always half: bands only list a city, not

coordinates.

  • Upcoming shows — 20 pts. Bands with shows on the calendar score

higher — an active band is usually a serious one.

  • Lineup experience — 15 pts. Average years playing across the band's

linked members.

How to use it

  1. Run any search on Musicians or Bands.
  2. Scan the ★ badges — higher is a better fit for you.
  3. Hover the badge to see which part is dragging a score down.

Tips

  • Scores are personal: they compare each result against your profile,

genres, and location. Two people see different numbers for the same

musician.

  • Fill in your own genres, location pin, availability calendar, and skill

level — the score can only work with what it knows.

  • Signed-out visitors see neutral scores with a note to sign in.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

  • Everyone scores around 50. You probably haven't set your genres or

location yet — both default to half-credit.

  • The badge says "no availability marked". That's the other musician's

calendar, not a penalty: unknown counts as half, not zero.

  • Can I sort by match score? Not yet — scan the badges on each page.
