Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions that come up most, grouped by area. Each

links to the full guide.

Accounts & signup

Is MusicXen free?

Yes — signing up and all core features are free.

I never got my verification email.

Check spam first. If the site's email isn't configured, the verify link

is shown to you directly after signup instead — check the page. See

Signup wizard.

Can I have more than one role?

Yes — pick any combination of Musician, Band, Venue, Fan, Instructor,

Artist, or Studio at signup, and change it later.

How do I delete my account / data?

Build a data export first, then contact support

from the Contact page.

Profiles & discovery

Why don't I show up in search?

City, instruments, and genres must all be set — search filters on

those. New accounts can take a few minutes to appear. See

Your profile.

What is the match score?

A 0–100 badge on finder results: genre overlap, distance, availability,

and skill. Hover it for the breakdown. See

Match scores.

Booking & shows

How do bands get booked?

Two ways: propose a date to a venue (they approve/decline), or claim an

open venue slot directly. See the

illustrated booking guide.

The venue isn't answering my proposal.

Give it a few days, then send one polite follow-up through the booking

thread. Blank proposals get ignored — use a template and make sure your

demo reel exists. Your venue response badge is public, so most venues do

answer.

Who handles the money?

MusicXen processes payments through Stripe. For ticket sales, merch,

and ticket resales, MusicXen takes a 15% platform fee and the

venue/band/seller receives 85%. For direct bookings (guarantee, door

deal), pay is agreed in the booking and recorded in the settlement,

which both sides see. Never wire deposits to strangers. See

Pay protection.

Can I cancel a confirmed show?

Yes — cancel or postpone from the show page. Both sides are notified.

If it's last-minute, message the other side directly too. See

Cancel / postpone.

Calendar

Why do I see two bookings on one date?

The clash checker warns but doesn't block — only you can keep your

calendar clean. Check the band calendar before proposing.

How do I get my shows into my phone calendar?

Subscribe to your personal iCal feed from the calendar page — it stays

in sync automatically. See Calendar export.

Messaging

Someone's harassing me.

Block them — it hides you everywhere and shuts down all contact — then

file a report. See Blocking & reporting.

Are my messages private?

Threads are visible only to their participants (and, for show chats, the

band/venue/promoter on that show). Moderators can review reported

threads.

Lessons, artists, studios

How do trial lessons work?

Pick an instructor, request a trial at their fixed intro price; they

confirm or decline from their dashboard. MusicXen takes no cut — you

sort payment with the instructor directly.

I'm an artist/studio — how do I get clients?

Complete your directory profile, then watch the Needs boards

(art, recording) — bands

post gigs and you pitch once per post.

Safety

How do I report a scam?

Report the user and the thread, and stop all money talk. Real venues

never ask for "booking fees" wired in chat. See

Pay protection & scam awareness.

Can my teenager use MusicXen?

Yes, with guardrails: adults can't start threads with minors, and

contact details are blocked both ways in threads involving minors. See

Age restrictions.

Still stuck? Contact support — a human replies within

a couple of days.
